Love and Truth

christian blogs love and truth

The age-old tension between love and truth seems to be at the apex in our present time. I guess this should be no surprise to us as followers of Jesus. Two thousand years ago, our elder, brother John, warned believers of the times that they live in. “That antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come” (1 John 2:18224:3 ESV) Such men were false prophets: teachers who claim to be believers but whose teachings undermine true faith. And many of them had already gone out all over the world. (1 John 4:1)

Because Jesus embodies the purest forms of truth in love, we can expect present-day antichrists will blur and pervert these attributes of God. On one hand, folks claim to be defending truth and do so with angry messages, sometimes targeting people in a purposeful and hostile way. On the other hand, misguided people that claim to be champions of love work to silence anyone that is calling people to holiness.

My choice to love people is not based on their actions or life choices. It’s based on them being created and loved by God. I may have contempt for their ideas, actions, and decisions, but I will not have contempt for people. To have contempt for what God created in His image is foolish, and quite likely contemptible.

Kaylene and I were married in 2001. And we have been blessed with seven children. For the past 20 years, I have worked with my brother, Kent, operating a small construction business: Welsh Run Builders. I have been part of the Upton Brethren Church my entire life. One of our family traditions is spending part of the winter in the south as a host family for Christian Disaster Service. We rebuild homes damaged by hurricanes. I have always known about Heralds of Hope. It has been rewarding to serve on the board. Watching the changes the Lord has brought to the ministry has been tremendous.
