Autumn is hereit’s time to cozy up with some audio-books! Today, we travel from Sweden to America with the Larsson family.

Sod House Winter (They Came from Sweden)

Canadians have their national Thanksgiving Day on Oct. 14 and the US follows with theirs on Nov. 28. These days are set aside as a time of reflection on God’s blessings that we North American’s enjoy.

But the foundation for many of our blessings was laid by hardy immigrants to this continent. One such family (the Larssons) emigrated to America from Sweden in the middle of the nineteenth century. They settled in a cabin on a small Wisconsin farm, then later moved to a Minnesota homestead where they lived in a sod house and prospered in their new country.

Help give your children an appreciation for their blessings by listening to this exciting audio book, Sod House Winter. Read dramatically by “Uncle J” (J. Otis Yoder), you will follow the Larson family through the joys, sorrows, travails, and triumphs of settling in a new country.

You can purchase Sod House Winter, narrated by Uncle J. by clicking this link.

The Sod House Winter CD set comes with 5 CDs and over 5 hours of listening enjoyment!

About the Author1

Clara Ingram Judson (1879–1960) was an American author who wrote over 70 books for children. She was born on May 4, 1879, in Logansport, Indiana, and her first children’s book was published in 1915.

She died on May 24, 1960, in Evanston, Illinois, shortly before she would receive the second Laura Ingalls Wilder Award, just after Laura Ingalls Wilder herself. She later got her own award, the Clara Ingram Judson Award.

About the Narrator

For 21 years, Dr. J. Otis Yoder produced a daily radio program, “The Children’s Hour.” The program featured dramatic readings of classic children’s literature. Affectionately known as “Uncle J,” he had a loyal following that spanned all ages. HOH is reviving these original recordings, and we are pleased to offer these digitally remastered reproductions of several classic stories.
