5k for HOPE

5 31 22

On April 9, 2022, Heralds of Hope held its first-ever 5K at Shippensburg Township Park. 67 Runners crossed the finish line. It was overcast and 52 degrees, near-perfect for long-distance running. At 19:58, Jesse High crossed the finish line first. J. Mark and Joyce helped bring up the tail end. You can read more of the stats on the Timer Hill Timing website.

I ran, too, but not in the race. Instead, I ran around with a camcorder, and Glenn Leid, from Nolt’s Power Equipment, flew a drone. You can see some of the footage below. But first, here are some impressions of the day.

J. Mark: In the HOH 5K, my wife and I were designated as “sweepers.” In my younger years, that would’ve meant emptying the bowls at the dinner table. In this case, it meant making sure no runner was left along the trail with a medical emergency and picking up any trash generated by the runners. It also gave a good excuse for finishing last in the race. But we enjoyed it very much and hope to see many of you next year.

Thank you to all the runners and supporters of this event!
